Goal: To redesign Committee for Children's marketing webpages to better serve our digital goals and to reflect our exponential growth.
I sought to bring a fresh, new energy to the site, facilitating our marketing content, as well as modern web practices—while still retaining the qualities inherent to our core brand.
Feedback
"This is looking great! I love the way it's designed simply, yet some design elements provide interest and guide a reader through without detracting from the information."
-Rachel B., Marketing Manager, Committee for Children
Landing page template (left), layout sample (right). I set up a design process with two other designers to re-concept the look and feel for Committee for Children’s product marketing website in a tight timeline. We parsed the marketing copy to find the best approach for message delivery. Then we white-boarded layout ideas to clarify content hierarchy and to define sections we could template.
Templated style samples (left), comp of a longer marketing page (right). One particular challenge was accommodating extensive copy and multiple marketing points, while achieving a highly visual, user-friendly style. Our team strove to design visuals and layouts to engage users and keep them scrolling down long pages.
Hero banner options (top left), quote style (bottom left), early comp ideas (center & right). After determining our overall design approach the team split up to design specific templates and sections of content. We then reconvened to swap both comps and feedback in a fun, very collaborative process. We later joined a team lead by the Creative Director to help produce final assets and to design remaining sections.
Goal: To responsively redesign the home page, log in, and navigation of the Second Step product website to prepare it for marketing and e-commerce.
Feedback
"WOW! Just took a quick tour and the site is AMAZING! ...Congratulations to the team who pulled this off!"
-Tonje M., M.Ed., Senior Program Developer, Committee for Children
Final comp for the home page. This was the first addition of marketing to our Second Step home page. I utilized a hero banner, client testimonials, and marketing articles to highlight the product. The project required additional navigation design, while retaining a clear pathway for our traditional users.
Mobile comps, left to right: 1) Anonymous view 2) Log-in overlay 3) Search view. 4) Tablet comp, logged-in view. Designed and comped responsive layouts for several screen sizes, from extra small (320 px) on up to larger desktop screens (1600+ px). I worked with Product Owner to create a more user-friendly log in, search and navigation for mobile users.
Early drafts (left & center), tech specs (right). Developed layout and style ideas based on conversations with Product Owner and Marketing Manager. As project finalized, created a Google Doc with all technical requirements for our offshore development team.
Goal: To redesign several sections of the Second Step Product website, updating styles, improving hierarchy, and freeing up space for in-page marketing.
Feedback
"We are LOVING the Spanish and the new website -- bravo!"
-Sherrie, Educator, Austin School District
Redesigned landing page (left), original landing page (right). We lightened styles to give more focus to site content. I redesigned the navigation and added grade/program labels to orient users. I lead a team to recode all pages with responsive HTML5, CSS3. We worked with our editors to combine content into half as many pages, reducing user clicks and simplifying user pathways.
Drop down menu comp (left), redline for developers (right). We removed an underutilized left-column nav to increase available page real estate and to improve site responsiveness. I designed a drop down nav to replace it, creating a redline for off-shore developers.
Redesigned lesson materials page (left), original English and Spanish lesson materials pages (right). l lead the redesign of all program and grade content. We created more compelling pages, utilizing icons and visual layouts in place of text-heavy pages. We implemented space saving tools, such as language toggles to make Spanish and English materials available on the same page without visually overwhelming users.
Goal: To concept and design an easy-to-use interface that would allow educators to stream our lesson media directly into the classroom.
I collaborated with multiple Product Owners to concept and whiteboard the project, then led the design and production of the websites.
Feedback
"Well let me just say that I am dancing around my computer! I finally got a free five minutes to sign up and it was SO SIMPLE and it is super easy to access the various media components. The interface is straightforward, professional, and as someone else said…fancy! Beautiful job, team!"
-Joan D., Executive Director, Committee for Children
Landing page menu (top), Grade 1 lesson page (bottom). We strove to improve on previous DVD/CD interfaces, while retaining some reference to existing materials so teachers who knew our program could instantly navigate the site.
Kindergarten landing page (redesigned for existing website). An additional version of Streaming Media was later added to our product website, as the company expanded the project. I worked with the Product Owner to redesign content to match existing site styles and enhance usability for the interfaces. I designed and comped layouts, and lead a production team to produce and load all content.
